KEENE, NH – A massive employer in the Monadnock Region will close by the end of next year.

The announcement was made to employees at Smith’s Medical in Keene on Wednesday, according to Tom McCall, Corporate Vice President, Global Marketing
at ICU Medical.

Smith’s Medical was purchased by ICU Medical in 2022, and McCall says the two have been consolidating since then. He said that ICU Medical’s decision to close Smith’s Medical was tough, but necessary.

“Smith’s has performed well, but it’s duplicative to other manufacturing facilities,” McCall told WKBK over the phone.

All manufacturing currently done at the Keene facility will be transferred to other locations, the closest being in Connecticut.

“This decision has nothing to do with the performance of the Keene site; it is strictly a business decision,” McCall said in an email. “There is a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience at this site that has helped move the business forward over the years.”

Business will continue at the facility for now and the closure will be done in phases throughout 2025. ICU Medical is working with employees to help them transition and are providing severance pay and benefits.

“No one is being let go today,” McCall said. There are currently about 220 full time employees at the facility.

Employees will be given at least 60 days notice before they are let go from their position.
